This series was produced in the first weeks of quarantine, when many became all too familiar with every detail of their personal space. It is inspired by Jacob Kirkegaard’s ambient album 4 Rooms, in which he recorded the ambient sounds in four empty rooms in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. He then played these recordings back into these spaces, recorded the sounds again, and repeated this process over ten times. This idea of a room folding upon itself over and over again led me to experiment with arranging photographs I took in my apartment into labyrinthian composition that reflect the complex layering of the self within the environments we occupy. This work aims to transform the familiar and comfortable spaces of the home into impossible and unsettling surfaces for contemplation.
